identifying c6

hello. i am trying to identify the year of c6 used in my truck for starter purposes. i think someone might have swapped in a 70's style c6 but not sure how to tell the diffrence between that and a 1985. i am told they use diffrent starters. thanks in advance

What engine? My '71 Cleveland had a C6, but uses same starter when I installed C4. I thought only difference in C6s was small block vs big block.

nope i have a c6 behind a 300 inline 6

The early ones had a vacuum fitting on the rear that screwed in. Later models were held in place by a clip that was bolted to the tranny. I don't know what year the switch was made though.
