High idle mod.

Ok so I found this and it seems so very easy, except it doesn't say where to put the switch in or where to get 12v power. I am pretty sure I can figure it out pretty easily but I just need help on those two parts. All help is greatly appreciated.

High Idle Modification By LDH Ford Powerstroke Diesel Forum

Slide your driver's seat all the way back. Pull the plastic panel off that covers your fuse box. It's right there in front of your knees. Now take a 10mm socket and remove the 4 bolts that hold up your black fuse box. Just let the fuse box hang there. Now look for a batch of wires near your emergency brake pedal that are all blunt cut with white labels on them. One of them will be labeled "PTO". Strip 1/4 or 1/2 inch off of the end of this wire. Now look for a batch of wires behind the area where your black fuse box was mounted before you removed the 4 bolts and let it hang. There will be 4 wires labeled "AUX 1, 2, 3, 4". Strip 1/4 or 1/2 inch off of AUX 3 or 4, whichever one you want. Now take a piece of wire that's about 6 inches long, strip both ends of it and twist one end around the PTO wire and the other end around the AUX wire. Put some black tape around both ends and that's it. Bolt your black fuse box back up in it's place and put your plastic cover back on.

To use the high idle mod, put your truck in park, push your emergency brake pedal down, and flip the auxilary switch that you used. Give it a second, and it'll slowly idle up to 1100 RPM.

If your truck isn't equipped with with the Auxilary switches built into the dash, buy a toggle switch, tie into a red 12V wire somewhere and use it. Remember, 12V at 10 amps. This is why you use AUX 3 or 4 instead of 1 or 2. AUX 1 and 2 are 30 amp switches.

Ok I get that but where does the switch route into the wiring? That's what I'm not getting. Do I just hook one side to the PTO and the other to the battery? If I do the. What hooks into the aux wire?

If you don't have the AUX switches and want to keep your dash clean you can use the e-brake for the switch. Every time you depress the e-brake and in park you will go into hi-idle.

Mine is hooked up this way, it works great. Also as you go through the tech folder you will see that there are two options, one is PTO wire and the other is Battery Protection Mode.
The difference in BPM idle will vary depending on alternator load(1,200-2,400 RPM) whereas PTO will go to 1,200 RPM.

I used BPM as I am always having to jump-start something, just choose to suit your own needs.

Its already connected to the ebrake. The high idle wont come on untill the ebrake is depressed. When i start my truck in the morning i just push it in one click with my hand, just as long as the lights on in the dash

Follow the instructions in the tech folder, basically you just connect the two wires together and the e-brake works as the switch.

Well if the e-brake works as the switch why do I keep seeing that I need to hookup a switch? So just so I am totally understanding this, I just hook the wires together and it works when I put the e-brake on?

Yes.

The reason for the switch would be if you wanted to set the e-brake with the engine running and NOT have the high-idle.

Everything is in the tech-folder, this is one of the easiest things you can do to your truck, its already pre-wired so you just hook the two wires together.

Everyone talking about "e-brake". You all drive 05-07 trucks!

MurderMode drives an 04. Different wiring issues!!!!

Go back to the post that shows the link for 03-04 trucks.

High Idle Mod 03-04!!!!!!

Follow it. You can just hook the 2 wires together and high idle will always kick on, or, wire to a switch, as I did also, and flip it when you need it. The E-brake will have no effect on the mod.

Here is how I did my switches, since my 04 does not have upfitter switches.

One last question. What type of wire do I need to hook this up or can I just pull on those until they are long enough?

No, you can't pull them. Need to add.

From the Ford guide, these wires need to be

MINIMUM 18 GAGE SXL OR
18 GAGE GXL FOR ALL WIRES

https://www.fleet.ford.com/truckbbas...bb_pdf/199.pdf

Even though the 2 wires look to be 20's.

I think I used 16, don't remember though.

Ok I got it hooked up. It took me about an hour, mainly just because it's so hard to get back in there. I hooked it up to a switch which I mounted to the right of the steering column and it works like a charm. Thanks for all the help guys!
