Turbo fart/high EOT??? Maybe no problemo?
Been travelling back and forth alot from the desert floor to the Arizona mountains around 9100 feet altitude. We are getting into summer pretty well so pretty good contrast in ambient temps. Due to finally getting a Scangauge2, I am more aware of what is happening on the truck.
Today I had a few issues coming down to the hot desert. Saw EOT on a good hot climb of 236, ECT was 222, ambient temp was 87F, about 5200 foot elevation. From what I have read, no real biggie on the EOT value?
Later, about 2500 feet, 101F temp, small climb, 2200 or so rpms, 222/210, started what I think is turbo farting ("chuff, chuff, chuff"), just minor climbs...have not had that for 2 years or so. No codes thrown. I read where turbo farting is "normal"...but I didn't care for it last time around, after a bunch of tries we got rid of it after turbo cleaned, EGR cleaned, baro sensor replaced...not sure really which fixed it but it stopped.
So to repeat, sorry so long winded:
1. 236 EOT too high?
2. Turbo farting "normal"? Possibly solved with EGR valve cleanup? (have not done it for like 20,000 miles but have been driving it hard for several months).
Thanks fellas, great site, for a non mechanic, this place is a life saver.
Is 236 EOT too high?
Thanks for any help.
I have never had it make "the fart" while my foot was down on the throttle. Just a thought but maybe start small and check your Cac Boots and make sure everything is still on good and tight and no cracks/leaks?
My foot never let up on the pedal. It just "puffed" like 3 times on 2 different modest inclines. Air filter is pretty new, no codes thrown, not making oil, last UOA was fine, new t-stat, no real problems I can think of...mpgs around 18.4 on these trips. Surprised me truthfully, been feeling good about things but not freaking out now either.
I just didn't care for it when it did this around 75k miles. As I said before, cleaned the EGR valve, replaced the baro sensor, cleaned the turbo, suddenly it resolved and didn't do it anymore. Which of the above solved it, I don't know.
Can someone explain exactly what is happening when turbo farting occurs?
Thanks again....
