Help please w/ electrical issue (dome, dash lights)
I've replaced the entire instrument cluster, the headlight switch, bulbs, and checked fuses....I give up. What's the problem here? ...
Dome light doesn't work when the door in open. (Chimes does work so it's not the indicator)
Back 2 clear lights don't work in the 3rd brake light. (The brake light does work though when your brake)
Instrument cluster is not lighting up when turning the headlight switch on.
Any ideas? 1998 Ford F-250 V8 5.4L Tritan Club Cab
I have not looked your truck up, only going by memory, so if you want to double check, try Autozone's site and look in their repair guides to verify but;
Most of the later trucks have a interior light relay. It's usually controlled by a GEM module, see if your truck has one. They brought the GEM module into the trucks, and then eventually got rid of it for a body module, but I think your truck may have a GEM. The GEM takes the door switch signals, and does some timing functions with it, and then turns the relay on to activate the lights. The GEM also controls other functions in your truck. Since you are not complaining about other crazy things happening, I am assuming your GEM does not have water damage, which is a common problem when the windshield develops a small leak.
Your instrument cluster lights sounds like a separate problem. You say the cluster lights to not light. Does any of the heater control lights or any other night illumination dash lights work?
Thanks i'll look into the GEM module....For the dash, all of the instrument cluster lights are out..when i turn the headlights on, nothing in the instrument cluster lights up..the radio works though.

For your illumination problem, find the instrumentation lighting fuse. Pull the headlights on, and then probe both sides of the fuse socket and see if you have power. If you have no power, I suspect something is wrong at the headlight switch dimmer control(the thing that dims the dash lights).
P.S. I see you have replaced the headlight switch, so you are going to have to get a meter out and start checking for voltage at the switch on certain wires to see where the problem is.
