I have a '97 F250 7.3 PSD.. Transmission is in limp mode, ABS light is on.. Using a Snap-On MT2500 scanner can't get it to show any codes. O/D light is flashing and trans is shifting hard so I know there is a code to be read. Problem is the scanner stops and freezes up, or automatically restarts itself part way through the scan...
I already replaced the vss/abs sensor on the differential, and ran continuity on those wires and all is well there. Seems that all fuses are intact, and battery connections are good. Help?!? I need to get back to work!!
Yes, once in a while it does lope when I start it..If I shut it off right away and restart it, it runs fine. Also, upon occasion, when I start it in the morning, it does not have any power AT ALL...Again, shut the key off, restart it, and it goes away..SOmetimes. LOL!!
One of the guys I have helping me is a top shelf PSD guy, and he is even stumped.. He says his scanner has only done this on one other truck, and it needed a new 'puter (
Does your speedo bounce around all over when driving? My truck did that and the trans would slam shifts and slip, builds a lot of heat fast, not good. My problem was the PSOM (programmable speedometer/odometer module) located on the back of the instrument cluster. I ended up replacing the instrument cluster and has fixed the problem. To get by temporarily, I unhooked the batteries then reconnected them which seemed to reset it or something for little while.
I am just trying to figure out why the scanner keeps re-booting itself before it completes the diagnostic cycle... Snap-On tells me it's a loss of power to the brick, but since they have discontinued that model, they had no current info on troubleshooting..I guess the answering service's flip charts have been updated or something LOL! ...Anyway, has anyone else had this problem?
