A question for you guys that use autozone,I dont have one anywhere near me so I cant ask them,so what better place to get info than right here?
What I need to know is,do they have an actual scanner or do they just pull codes, the reason I ask is,in trying to help others diagnose their problems there are things that help alot to steer me in the right direction, such as long fuel trim, short fuel trim, various sensor readings etc,And I dont want to send somebody there if they dont have a mil on,and all autozone can do is pull codes that they wont have.
From my experience, they just scan OBD-I and OBD-II codes with an ordinary code scanner (just like the ones they sell off the shelf). I got tired of driving 25 miles to go to Autozone, so I just bought my own. One time the ABS warning light came on in my Firebird, and there is a code scanner that can get the ABS codes for it, but Autozone said they don't do that service. On most OBD-I (and a couple OBD-II) cars, it is possible to obtain the codes without a scanner, such as using key on-off positions until the light flashes x number of times.
