E-Brake Light

Of course the month my inspection is due, my e-brake light comes on, and I have no clue why. I use my ebrake religiously. Any ideas, thoughts?

Thanks!

That little switch for the parking brake can break rather easily, just happened to me February or so.

Take a look by the bracket you might just a wire hanging loose with a piece of it still attached.

I have to pull up on the e-brake peddle with my toe while holding out on the release to get the peddle to come up enough to get the light to go out.

What's the chance of it having something to do with the ABS? I was reading up on some explorer forums as I was waiting corresponded.

Normally you would have an ABS light on also.

Critterf1 is correct. If you had an ABS problem, that light should come on. I ruptured a rear brake line a few years ago, which caused both lights to come on. The red light with the word BRAKE showing indicates that you have low fluid or, your e-brake is on.

The part about having to lift up on the parking brake pedal to turn off the light should be a clue as to the problem...

Nothing about low fluid.
Nothing about ruptured lines.
Nothing about ABS.

Hmmmm..... just what could it be?

What would cause low fluid, other than a leak?

Is there a reason your asking about brake fluid when you should be looking at the parking brake switch?

But anywho... Fluid can leak externally from a line or piston or internally into the brake booster which then gets sucked into the engine.

It would be a clue - if it were posted by the OP - which it wasn't...

Maybe the OP (awright48) can try this trick and see if he can get the light to go out. I have to do this on my '04 but my brakes are in pretty bad shape lol...

wow...well it was a pin hole leak, that I did not see at first, which then got bigger and finally burst. I had to replace my right front brake line...if I wasn't busy I would have saved $290. Oh well. thanks for all the help!
