This morning on my way to work the little nub that holds the rod for the clutch snapped right off. So I couldn't push the clutch in to get in gear or start the truck. Has this happpened to anyone else before? What was your solution? Also can anyone show me what actually holds the rod from the clutch onto that little nub?
I will try and post some pictures when I get home. Im on my phone now. Thanks for your help everyone.
Yes. When I was 18 or 19 I worked underground electrical construction. Same thing happened on the Chevy DRW truck I was driving. Boss had left me and another worker at the job site and the thing snapped as we were leaving. I had a truck, 40' gooseneck, backhoe and a spool of cable to get back to the shop. I improvised...I cut some of the cable scraps we had laying around and wired the pedal with enough wire to get us home. Worked great and made the boss happy.
Maybe not the solution you were looking for, but maybe throw some wire behind the seat.
Look for the heim joint fix. Do a search here for instructions and I think you can search ebay for a kit. You basically just need to remove the pedal, drill out the shaft that broke, install a new bolt and the heim joint and get rid of that plastic bushing clip and the rod it goes on.
Haha I wish I could of found these threads earlier when I was looking on my phone. But it was real annoying using my phone. I actually pulled the pedal, drilled it out, grinded the nub down and welded it back in. Put the linkage back on and right now it is zip tied together so I could drive it home haha. I also found that heim mod earlier in a google search.
I guess I will buy that mod and then pull the pedal off and drill it out again and put the bolt through.
Is there anything I can buy for now that will hold that linkage to the shaft without using my zip ties lol.
Hey everyone I figured I would post some pics of my problem just in case anyone wasn't sure what I was talking about, plus anyone else with a manual can look at there's and make sure its alright.
heres the pedal with the nub broken off
pedal with the nub back in place
this is the part that broke, its a 3/8 solid rod but it is really worn down and I am gonna end up replacing it
this is the backside of the pedal where the weld was, I ground that off after I drilled the hole out
I just put a tack on the front of this to hold it in place, you can weld it from the front because the slave rod wont fit over it
and this is the backside welded back up.
Also it is pretty easy to get the clutch pedal off. I am going to have to pull the pedal back off once I do the Heim mod which I just ordered tonight. Its held on by a 2 "c" clips on a rod. You only have to take the side off against the e brake and the other side will slide out towards the brake pedal.
This is the part I purchased from ebay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/FORD-Clutch-...sories&vxp=mtr
It was a pain in the keister to pull the pedal but I was ingenius as usual. I used a cut off tool to remove the old stud/nub. I replaced my clutch pedal position switch while I was in there. I cut the old eye off even and grinded slowly until it fit into the heim joint. It is the best 40$ you will spend and the gal ships lightning fast.
Here is the video for the pedal repair. They do not show you how to get the pedal out. Be very mindful of the little plastic bushings on the joint of the pedal pivot point when you remove the rod to drop the clutch pedal. I don't like his voice and his annoying fast speaking with slight pauses but it is very good information.
