ok, It's a 91 F-150 with the 5.0efi and the E4OD tranny. It has 180000 miles and i just rebuilt the old *******. She runs great. So my questions are...
I heard you can get on out a 94?
Has anyone checked out these "MASTER KITS" on ebay?
What would be the best cam to go with?
Are there any downsides?
Can I have my engined bored later and still have the cam?
Is it a difficult procedure for an rookie?
Does it take a long time?
Sorry bout all the questions and i really thank yall for any input...I just have so my of them....
Should i just let the dog lye' and not do anything?
I really want this, I towed a cattle trailer the other day with my friends stock 95 that had the same engine in it it seemed...he said his was rocker though. And it seemed to have 50% more power....you know maybe thats on the steep side but.
Oh and .....what all parts do i have to get?
Thanks again for all your replies!
From reading through your post several times, I'm guessing that you want to put a roller cam in your '91. I'm guessing that you currently have a flat tappet cam in the motor now, as I'm unsure when they started to the truck 5.0's with roller cam's from the factory. On my rebuilt '90, it had a flat tappet cam and it was bored 0.40 over. It also came with a AOD tranny as well. My '92, 5.0 had a roller cam, and it's production date was 11/91. Most of the 5.0s came ready around '87, with the block ready to accept a roller cam, the only difference after say '93, (and someone will need to correct me, I believe) is the cam had some better power gains. If you are currently running a '91 ECM, and want to change to the later cam on a Speed Density setup, you may need to yank an ECM from a '94 or 95.
Also, I hadn't heard of a E4OD tranny behind a '91 5.0 truck. I have a '92, and it's with an AOD tranny.
Post back with the specific details and I'm sure we can help you.
As for changing the cam it's a pretty involved job, the motor has to be stripped bare of everything except the heads so you'll need the better part of a gasket set, and I'm pretty sure the rad and AC condenser have to come out if you leave the motor in the truck. Your '91 should have a falt tappet cam in it now but the block should also be roller ready, so you just need all the roller specific parts to put back in. Those parts include the roller lifter retainer assembly(spider and dogbones), roller lifters, roller specific pusrods which are shorter than those in a flat tappet motor, and of course a roller cam. All this will easily cost about $600 if you buy it new but there are always guys selling the stock parts from a Mustang so shop around and see what you can find.
lol it sounds crazy but i love my ford.....i believe if gas hit 10 dollars a gallon, i would still save up and take her for a ride haha....
But thanks again man...im gonna get back to some research..
