i am gussing your having the same problem i had with the cable fraying and streching. ford wanted like over 100.00 for a new one. since i dont lock my truck i rigged the lock button rod to actuate the door latch. to get out on my driver side you just bump the lock button down and the door opens.
The doors can be swapped ford used the same door design from the early 80s untill 98 in the f-250s and 96 in the f-150s. They changed the body of the f-150 in 97. They only made a few changes and that was the door panels in 87 then they changed the panels, wing glass and went to the cable door latch in 92. And of course the switches changed if you have power windows and locks.

Why can I picture someone accidentally bumping the button and falling out when driving...lol

If I am not mistaking I believe the 95 and 96 F150 doors have an extra bend at the bottom.
I ask this because I am restoring my 1990 F250 Diesel, and I found near perfect 1994 doors, however I DO NOT want the guts inside the 92+ doors. I wanna keep the gear driven handles from the previous years, much more durable!
