big cam and will begin the process of getting it streetable. will loose some btm end torque and will pull probably to 6500 pretty easy if compression is good. 10 to 1 comp. what is the application?
if its a stock btm end its definetly to big a cam. might look at something in the low to mid 270's durations. mud bogger truck or just a play mud truck. high lift short duration cams are the trick. since running big tire gearing and cam really need to be right. 5:13 gear or a little more is a definite. didn't say if auto or manual. either way the trick with manual is make some btm end torque and carry out to the higher rpms. if stock heads and about 9:1 comp or better gonna need a cam in the 270 duration in the .500 to .520 lift or more. some differences on how the cam is cut is the trick. If stock heads gonna need to upgrade valve springs for bigger lift cam. need to know if aftermarket heads this changes things on cams. once you go into the 275 duration cam and higher you'll notice you btm torque starts to go away. to much overlap in cam and btm torque suffers. gonna need a stall converter 2000+ or more. if manual just slip the clutch and good to go. 400 ford btm end stock is good up to 5500 to 6000 for short burst but taking the life out of her. need to upgrade the rod bolts and other fasteners. not really designed for long term high rpms. rod to stroke ratio is a little stout for a stock rod. if auto look into hughes performance XTM 43 torque converters. i run this converter and has been very durable over the yrs. i also have a low gear kit for my C-6. have photos of my big ford on 40's big block truck many mods over the yrs in my 77.
