Anything i can do in an hour or two to help it out?

White or black smoke?
Is it only when you cold start or also when warmed up?

If you have an injector with a broken tip you could possibly melt down a cylinder.

Black smoke warm, couldn't tell in the morning too high of winds and dark.
In the morning it had near zero acceleration, I always wait until my temp is up before I drive off.
I shut it down double checked fluids looked for obvious probs under hood. All looked in order.
On restart it took way too long to start and had rough idle. It accelerated slower then usual but cruises well. When they sun came out i noticed the smoke. Bilowed out so bad you could not see through it on acceleration.

Could be egr. Easy to pull it and inspect. If you clean it then be sure to get new o-rings.

Does the truck rough idle/skip at idle? Not sure what's around you, but you might take it by an AutoZone or ORielly's to see what codes it's got. If it's an injector...it should throw a contribution/balance code. Wouldn't hurt to check your engine oil to make sure your not "making oil" by diesel leaking down. If you've got diesel in it, the strong smell of the fuel could be there.

Best thing is not to Drive it at all

Sounds like an Injector Is STUCK ON

Black Smoke and Exhaust that smells strong of Diesel Fuel points to Injector and or FICM

From the Sound of symtoms sounds like Overfuel from Bad Injector

I would NOT Drive it till repaired

You risk Hydrolock or Burning a Piston up and or Small chance HeadGasket may Blow

This sounds like a Good Plan of Attack

Remember to scan for DTC you still might have one in there even with NO CEL ON!!

Then Check the FICM Volts need 47-49volts at ALL Times

Unplug the wire connector at the EGR Valve with the truck off this will disable EGR Valve in CLOSED Position. See if this Helps I kinda Doubt it will though.

If you Buy a Scan Tool you Really Need a AE with FORD Enhanced to be able to do a Cylinder Balance test and Injector Buzz Test. A ScanGaugeII is a Great Tool but Falls short on some Diagnostic procedure for Injectors.

If you Dont have Money for a AE I have a couple tricks up my Sleeve as well as some the other FTE Members and Techs to figure what inject Died if that turns out to be the Case.

One trick is to do a Bubble Test

Ya I hear you on time thing I Haul stuff in my truck everyday for work

Dont Drive it though till fix

Might be worth letting the dealer fix it so not down so long. Its goung to take a Day to change an injector first time

where is your ICP sensor at??????under the turbo in back or in the Passenger side Valve cover?????

Depending what location ICP Sensor at will determine what extra Seals/Gaskets stuff you might need to change while your In there

Being 04 there were some changes depending on Exact Build Date

sorry for updating so late in the game.
short of it is that it was the #2 injector, ended up being cracked. truck is running great couldn't be happier.

long version,
I was able to borrow a truck until the jobs I had lined up were over thats why update was so late. Once I had time I decided to just take it in to Diesel Tech in San Jacinto, Ca I only mention them b/c they were great and helped me out with my budget restrictions. my decision to take it was based mainly on that the labor cost was equal to the cost of "AE with FORD Enhanced" will still be ordering it, but not until I get a bigger buffer in the checking account.

Down side once I got there the truck vapor locked and burned out starter. Something to think about for those want to just keep on driving like i did. Also figured it there whats another hour of labor costs? had them change oil and filter too.

My brother took a pic of the smoke cloud as it was coming out of the pipe once I get that from him ill post it to help out someone researching their own probs.

anyhow thanks again guys,
especially Blade 35 you rock

Those 2003 engines are notorious for that type of injector failure. My concern is when you mention the injector was CRACKED. Cracked how and where? If there were any broken pieces of it still left in the engine, I don't want to imagine how long it will be before you lose cylinder #2.

For what it's worth, I had a 2003 truck about three months ago that lost a cylinder #3 injector. The owner had brought it to me just in time. When I pulled it, the tiny nut that secures the spool valve had dropped!!! LUCKILY, it was sitting on top of the rocker arm carrier, because if it had've fallen into the crankcase, it WOULD get sucked up into the oil pump, taking it out as well as the oil cooler and everything else oil passes through in the process!!!
