My truck stoped running awhile ago i took it to the shop that previously done work on it and for some reason they took the computer out and only did some of the work before i pulled the truck out of their because they were giving me the run around. It ended up being a HPOP not making enough rail presure to start it so i bought a new one and got it all bolted up, we used a mechanical pump to see where the pressures at and its at 2800 before it was only at 200. We tried seeing what the rail presure was at with a scanner but the scaner wont scan becasue of computer. My buddy is saying their maybe a short or somehting in the computer.
Is there any way to get it tested to see if its any good ? or will i just have to buy a new one?
Yes it will then ask for year make and model then it wont go any further with like menu options. We used this same scanner before we took it to that shop. We could run all of the buzz tests and check pressures and what not. Now we cant do any of that.
If its a 96 use the 95 protocol. Only way mine reads on a snap.on. I'd check all fuses. Inspect the pins and check most importantly your power point fuse as it powers the obd port.
We have checked all the fuses both under the hood and in cab.
Ill have to double check on the chips. I remember we had to borrow a chip to get the right readings
