Good morning folks. I've got a dealer f-150 in my driveway this morning. My lady is in the shop for a leak in the rear diff, where the driveline connects. This had better be the last trip to the dealer for warranty issues. This truck has been in the shop more than my last truck, a GMC....
Also taking the opportunity to get the transmission flushed.
Ah a pinion seal? those seem to be pretty common with fords...
I guess that's what it is…mez no mechanic. The dealership "couldn't find a problem". I guess they cleaned it up, drove around and then didn't find anything leaking. The service guy said it isn't unusual for it to go out, which means they should have just replaced it now. Clowns. At least I've got another year or so on my warranty for it to pop.
Yeah i have seen them go out pretty often, or seen threads about it. It is the spot where the driveling goes into the differential, there is a seal there that probably gets worn out and leaks. Even on GM vehicles at the dealership i worked at they replaced them often. Just keep an eye on it.
Another thing to look for is the area of the bed or body above that spot will have fluid splattered on it. A tall tell sign it leaks.
