Truck rolls coal when I shift through the lower gears, and when I romp the peddle. The IP still has the white paint from the factory on the screws, so I'm sure the fuel isn't cranked at all. I let my buddy drive it on the freeway the other day, and looking back, at normal cruising speed, up maybe a slight incline, I could see a sure thin haze of charcoal. Fuel milage seems to have dropped too lately. I figured injectors were going out. Well I pulled them all just now and found out they're a decent looking set of BB codes, say "made in england" on them. There ain't much black on the tips, and the copper washers are still shiny. Mind you I've no sure idea what they're supposed to look like. The IP is maybe a year old I'd guess, with not many miles on it, but the PO put it on. I don't know if he did injectors when he did the IP though, but I kinda doubt it, the injectors do look like they've been on there longer than the IP.
Q: Should I put these injectors back in with my new return line kit, and just have the truck timed? How can I tell if they're wore out? Should I have them pop tested? Is there any easy and effective way to clean them that would be a good idea?
Or should I scrape up my limited funds and buy a set of remans from pensacola?
i also have a pop tester that i could test them for you if you would like send me a pm if ya want i live in utah so idk how close that is for you or what not. and please correct me if im wrong but they should be firing at or around 1950 correct
I think I read that somewhere as being about right. About how much would it cost for me to just have the international shop test them? I appreciate the offer, but for the time it would take to ship them to Utah and back I might as well just order a set of remans next tuesday because that is pay day. This is my dd and the only reason I pulled it apart is because I can't afford to drive it right now anyway lol. Last expendable cash from last paycheck went to a new starter and return line kit.
yea you could just take it too an international shop and have them test it if they have the pop tester. still that is, last time i took mine to a ford dealership and well they were missing peices of theres so i had to build my own and yea you could buy a new set but not all of them are built the same in my opinion. that and they are around 50 a pop. im not sure if they sell rebuild kits for these injectors but i rebuilt mine from parts that were laying around or off my old 7.3 prolly not the best idea but it fixed mine and they worked great till i realized that i had to do a rebuild because all my pistons are cracked so yea
If it's anywhere around 50+ bucks to pop test my injectors I'm just gonna say screw it and order some pensacola remans. Won't know how much the shop will charge me until monday when they open again, unless you guys can give me a guestimate. I'm on a very tight budget here, don't judge haha.
If you order remans from Pensicola, you should get them pop tested as well. Before you go and buy injectors, have you changed out your air filter? Have you run any additive in your fuel filter (atf, Diesel Kleen or sea foam). I recently was experiencing lack of power and black smoke. I traced it down to my rear brakes were hanging up and causing excessive drag. your not the only one on a tight budget. we're all in this together.
Thanks, truck rolls free, front brakes are new, I might try more atf in er, I did a fuel filter change awhile back and filled it with atf. Air cleaner looks pretty clean.
