Replacing injectors, need advice

So I have thought about changing injectors for awhile, I am blowing some grayish smoke, my return lines are damp with fuel, and have close to 180,000 on what seems to be original injectors. Question is, where to buy the injectors. I read about Pensacola diesel and people seem to be happy with them $174 delivered, free shipping. Then I read about a guy name Russ that you folks are talking about. What is his story? I am also curious about why type of injectors to buy. I have a banks sidewinder and would like a high performance injector if they exist. Thanks for all your help and advice.

My '86 has that grey smoke too. My coolant level seems to stay constant and no sweet smell. Just a rich fuel smell. I ordered a set of BB code injectors, a return line kit and viton o-rings from Russ Sunday morning. PM typefour, Russ. I'm not sure about high performance injectors.

High-performance injectors do exist, but unless you have a turbo you won't see any power gains from them. About Russ, he takes brand new injectors and matches them in pop-pressure, as even tho they are new there is still some variation in their true pop-pressure - matched injectors make for better running engine. He will also sell you the proper return lines kit with viton o-rings that don't go all stupid and leaky on you within a few months of installation. As Jason said send a PM to Russ about this.

Last price I heard on Mel's Misters injectors the price was around 700 dollars.

By looking at how they pop, and how the fuel is atomized, they should be good injectors.

But at this point in time, I have never seen any dyno or MPG data on them.

Thanks for the reply guys. So Jason, how much did that cost you from Russ. I can buy new Delphi's from Pensacola Diesel shipped for $174 plus $25 for return line kit. Wanting to get the best and most out of my dollars. Thanks again.

How'd this project turn out? Who did you end up buying your injectors from?

I missed this post, sorry... $295 to my door. 8 matched injectors w/ viton o-rings and a new fuel return line kit. I called a bunch of places and they said they didn't pop test match the injectors.

**UPDATE**
dyno #'s

Mel's sig @ OBN claims average of 19mpg @ 55mph with his pump and injectors (along with various other mods.)

up in the air,and wide tires both hurt economy.
you probably just didn't recalibrate your speedo/odo.
i thought your rig wasn't on the road yet.how did you test a full tank @ 55 mph?

do you have dual tanks hooked up with a FSV Joe?
if so,you may want to inspect it.you may have fuel mixing between tanks or something.
24mpg average is not possible with your setup. you dont have an OD,big wide tires (yes 10" plus is "wide" as far as fuel economy goes) causing more rolling resistance, and lifted up in the air....nothing adds up to achieving more than 15mpg peak imho.with an average of a realistic 13mpg likely at best.
sorry Joe but something is messing up your calculations.

how many tanks did you run @ 55mph? and how do you dare driving on roads where you can go 55 without a legal truck?

Sorry for the delayed response. I got the new injectors and return lines in. Process went pretty smooth, but having some leaking problems. I have replaced some of the o-rings, used the Viton's, but still had some issues, and it fixed one leak, but still have an issue with a couple injectors leaking. Have you guys had problems with the new plastic tees leaking? Not sure where to look next for the leak. Need advice. Another question, would replacing injectors make it seem as though timing is advanced? Seems to have more of a rattle than before.
