What would you do?

Well I picked up my 2012 F250 XLT from the dealer in late march. When it was sent out to get linexd and windows tinted either the dealer or one of the service places put two small hair line scratches on the pillar on the rear passenger door. The other scratch is about 6" away on the rear quarter panel.

Not huge deep scratches but it will catch your finger nail. They buffed out one but not the other. They said they'd paint the panel but it will take awhile and we're moving in 10 days.

I was thinking of a fair settlement would be 24 bottles of pm-22, they already offered me a ford jacket a free oil change.

What would you do? The scratch is barely noticeable only if you know where it is and then you still have to look for it. It's about 2 inches long.

Just wanted your guys opinion. Lots of smart minds here.

I would take the trophies and call it good.

But

It depends on the color, the skill of the painter (bad touch up is worse than a scratch by a long shot), and how you use the truck. For me, it's a non issue. My truck gets used fairly hard, dents and scratches and wear and tear show up within the first year and just become part of the animal.

If your truck is your pride and joy for towing the RV and limited errand running, I dunno. Would have to be an awful good painter though. I've been burned by that before, poor match, runs, overspray, you name it.

That's kind of what I was thinking. I don't work. It does pull our tt and atv trailer's.

I think in the future if I ever had any rust issue I could find a good painter.

Ford won't spot paint, they will only paint the entire panel they said.

I had this same thing happen to me when I bought my 2012 F350 and the dealer told me that they would have to paint the entire door. They did and it took them 3 days from start to finish. I didn't want to take delivery of a new vehicle that had blemishes on it before I even took ownership of it.

I wonder if your current dealer could make a deal with a dealer where you are moving so that Ford can still take care of you. If they can't, I would happy with the goodies and tell myself it not an issue because the first time that you park in a parking lot, some butt head will ding or scratch it for you.

Just my take and I hope that you get satisfaction either way.

Best Wishes,

Randy

I'd have it buffed out the best is can be and leave the paint alone. It would be difficult to get a perfect match with that color.

As for compensation, no way 24 bottles of PM-22A would be an even trade. First off, they damaged your brand new truck. You didn't ask for this inconvenience and they should make it right. I'd expect more than $200 (retail) for that much headache myself.

I'd take the 24 bottles and a refund on my Line-x. Or the bottles and some good all-weather floor mats.

Figure it would cost you $500-700 to get that paint repaired (if you choose to) at a reputable paint shop in the future. The dealerships "compensation" should be fairly close in value to the cost of the repair.

I would ask for two oil changes and they can keep the jacket but have them throw in a color matched paint stick to touch it up and thank them for getting the first (and mentally hardest) scratch overwith.

It's a truck, not a Fabrege Egg.

I agree with Andrew, you are letting them off the hook to cheaply.

As for painting some painters can lay paint much slicker than factory so then it looks outta place. And others just can't get a match or orange peel terrible.

Personally if not noticeable and you can live with it. I'd leave it alone and get compensated for it.

Thanks guys, I gave them a list of stuff and she's seeing what she can get authorized.
I already bought the mats so I couldn't ask for them, plus I already bought the seat covers, mud flaps, step bars and bed cover so there weren't too many goodies left for me to ask them for. I am having them throw in 2 ford jackets one for the wife and one for me.

I agree with polishing it out the best you can and take whatever compensation you can get. Thats a very nice color, if I do say so myself. I have a longbed 350 the same color, and it sure is pretty (when its clean).
