I haven't even had my "new" ranger for 2 months and a rock got kicked up into my windshield and cracked it right on the passenger side. It's about a 6 inch crack. I can't afford to get a new windshield right now, so I need some tips on how to try and keep the crack from spreading. I'll eventually get another windshield but just can't do it now. I want to at least keep it from getting worse so I can buy some time before getting a new windshield. Thanks for any suggestions.
Most glass places can fill a crack that's up to 12" in length - it generally doesn't cost that much and, if done right, you can't hardly tell it's there.

Most insurance companies cover the cost of this repair. Will have to check with insurance company in advance to get it approved.

I always get comprehensive coverage on my cars........it covers Fire, theft and glass.........it cost about $70 for the year.........well worth it.....you should check and see if you have it...........if not you do what the other posts suggested...see if they will repair just the crack

I had no idea they could fix a crack that large. I thought they could only fix chips that were only up to a certain size. I'll definitely look into that, thanks. Thanks for your help guys. BTW, my current insurance only has a $250 deductible but I'm going to get full comprehensive after this. I talked to my insurance company today and she said it would only be an extra $40 a year for both my Ranger and my wife's car. Definitely seems worth it for the future.
Dont know about your state, but in FL there is a required no deductible windshield replacement. Check what your insurance covers before giving up on it!

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, PA doesn't have that and I already talked to my insurance company about it and it's just a $250 deductible. I called a few different places today and they all told me that the windshield would have to be replaced. They said you can't do anything unless it's a chip, which is what I thought initially. So, I guess I'm back to my original question about how to try and keep it from spreading for now until I can pay for a windshield.
Get an estimate to replace it, start saving the $$$ and in the meantime stay off of rough and rockstrewn roads, and stay away from ruthless Mario Andretti drivers on the road.
One of our local companies here in N.C. will install a new one for around $165. Its cheaper than a deductable. Check all the places and ask if they will price match their competitors pricing.

cornering, speedbumps, etc will flex the body as much as any "bad road". Simple road vibration can cause it to spread.
You know, I went on YouTube and I saw guys on there repairing cracks just like mine. Why can't I get a glass place that is willing to do that? They all told me that if it's bigger than a quarter, I'd have to replace the whole thing. The ones I saw getting repaired were much bigger than a quarter.
