A couple of weeks ago I noticed at startup a few puffs of smoke from the exhaust but it would almost immediately go away and it stopped doing this after a couple days. Well over the last few days the issue has yet again arisen. The truck is running fine, Im not having any codes or DTC's via the scanguage but I dont want to drive it and have something happen. I had similar symptoms almost a year ago which resulted in replacing all the o-rings on the passenger side injectors after it hydrolocked on me. The smoke looks the same as it did then so Im wondering if it could be o-rings on the drivers side or the possibility of an injector going south. My fuel pressure has stayed mid-65 and like I said shes running great. The issue clears up after about a minute. Here is a video I took earlier so looking for some insight. I filmed with my phone so the vid is sideways but you can see what its doing. Thanks for the input guys.
Its not really any stronger smelling than the normal exhaust. I havent pulled the EGR valve lately and havent noticed any coolant loss. I was thinking of doing the balloon test but got tied up on other things today.
Another good fast way to check them injectors is to pull the FICM Fuse and Fuel Pump fuse and pull that Upper fuel filter cap and watch as someone cranks for Bubbles
Maybe you knew just thought I would throw it out there
Well I went and did a video but first when I took the fuel filter from the housing there was a black oring pictured below laying in the fuel housing. I took it out but not sure where it goes. Also Benny on the fuses, I pulled #40 for the pump but which one is for the ficm? I did the video but not sure if only having one fuse pulled gave me true results. I didnt notice any bubbles. Smelled exhaust again but it just smells like it always does and dont look into it as it will burn out your eyes..lol. Looking for bubbles in fuel housing on a Ford 6.0 Powerstroke - YouTube
this just some info on the FICM^^^ I thought it would show the fuse but it didnt did show the FICM lodgic fuse though
#103 the 50amp
IDK if the FICM firing the injectors will alter the test it might Im thinking it needs a longer crank not firing the injectors to get the air bubbles to the filter housing
Id try again with the Fuse out the fuel pump and the ficm
IDK about that oring been a few since I had that cap off Good reminder though I about due for fuel filters
There is a green oring on the very top of the stand pipe in the fuel housing but lower down on the standpipe it has the square notches that mate to the notches in the filter. I will go right now and pull that other fuse ( under the hood) and see. In the first video it only started for a sec but Ill keep turning her over. Ill also see how full the housing is before I do the check. Ill post another vid in just a few minutes.
Makes me wonder if it
Basicaly pushing air in fuel rail in the exhaust stroke and then purging it back out when the Injector fires NOT letting it makee its way to the upper Fuel filter
The truck should run Rough if has injector problems does it or is this just a white smoke issue?????????????
Trucks running better than it ever has and for the longest since Ive had it (had the bad injector orings, then stc fitting blowed out then ebp sensor went out causing turbo havoc) and since all thats been replaced (ebp was in late Jan) she has driven like a brand new truck. No power loss, I beat a Dodge 4x4, not missing a lick except for the smoke which has got me in better not drive it far from home mode (I work 30 miles away) so Im trying to diagnose as much as possible. I took another vid but Im having Zune issues not letting me upload the pic to youtube from the phone but I completely let fuel fill up over the top of the standpipe this time (before was atleast 1/2" lower before) and turned it over, no bubbles just ripples from the engine turning over. Now about the fuse, my 103 fuse is a 30 amp and is to the ignition, the ficm logic fuse is not listed or I dont know what else its called in my under hood fuse panel so I still only pulled the fuel pump fuse which is a 20 amp fuse in #40 location under the dash. I do have a 50A fuse located in #5 under hood that says its for an IDM(Injector Driver Module)?? Could that be the ficm? Anyway if I can ever get this video to load Ill post it but its just like the first one but with a full filter housing.
I have a pic of the fuse panel it wont let me load it on here I saw it there so assumed that was it
But that 50amp fuse is it
You found it in the Little black box by the Master cylinder right there should also be a 10amp little fuse there for the FICM Lodgic fuse. IDK if just that little one will cut it it says that if that fuse is Bad/out the injectors will buzz but thats it and wont fire them to run. but IMO you should pull the Main FICM Fuse the 50amp one
Well Im probably gonna have to put a 3rd test on hold until tomorrow but one thing that puzzles me is that blamed o-ring. The only oring I remember is the big one on the filter cap. The small green oring is right top dead center of the standpipe but I dont see anywhere for the black quarter sized oring to go. Now here is a dumb question and it may not do this the next time but I cranked her up and moved her in the driveway and it didnt really smoke at all that time. The only difference is that I took the oring out of the bottom of the fuel filter housing. Now my question is (and why it just started IDK) but is it possible that the o-ring caused the filter to sit a little high and have fuel bleed down out of the housing while the engine is off? Just a question as she might blow smoke out every port tomorrow but just odd how EVERY time I cranked it today it smoked and didnt notice it this last time. Now given my only light is a flash light and a security light in the corner of the yard but I could see the smoke fairly noticebly earlier under the same lighting conditions. Then again it might not have smoked this time since it was only about half hour since it was started before. Dunno. Thanks though for all the insight so far.
