My 300 still has the OEM air cleaner box and I want to continue restoring the induction system. First was the carb and choke stove tubing and now I want to find the heat riser baffle for my 78 300. I know it might be a tough find but thought I'd throw it out there to see if anyone might just have one laying around... Lol... There's no jy's up here close by but I'll be surfing the used part sites and making calls to them.

 

I, too, went though this search and was fortunate enough to find one, but it was difficult as they are now 26-32 years old.

Sometime back, someone [Franklin?] provided a drawing of something that would work. A sheet of metal flashing rolled into a tube and held next to the exhaust manifold [headers in the drawing] with hose clamps. You can purchase the flexible metalized hose which connects to the snorkle of the air filter at any parts house. This hose, of the correct length, could be slid into the metal tube [stove] and the other end connected to the air filter housing. This would provide the source of heated air needed during the warm-up of the engine. Once warm, the vacuum servo on top of the snorkle will open the flap and allow air to enter through the hose leading to the radiator support. This will provide cooler more dense air to the engine.

 

Hmm... Maybe that someone will see this and maybe he still has the drawing...
I was looking at the manifold today and thinking maybe making something also, but not sure how to go about it yet. And I also see there were actually two baffles or shrouds.

Ya know the funny thing about how I'm trying to put everything back together is that when I 20 I bought a 79 Z28 with a B/W Super T10 even. It was a year old when I bought it and right away I was under the hood cutting and tossing parts over my shoulder thinking.... What the hell is all this dumb junk that makes the engine bay look so cluttered!! For Lol! Even the A/C went! Oh for young and dumb ha?

 

Holy smokes! I just did a simple search on eBay and on page two of the results there is someone offering the baffles for a GTO... For $299!! Wow! Good luck to him! He must be funding his kids college with parts on eBay!

Thanks, I did find it. I don't have headers but with a longer tube to the snorkel I could do this aft the donut gasket where the pipe comes off of the manifold. Sometime toward the fall. Sooner I will be doing a oil pan gasket, the 1986 coversion of it and new bushings for the clutch equalizer bar. Chow!
