You are right about the bottom part seperating, but the top part (turn signals) doesn't come apart. I stuffed it full of newspaper and masked it off. I'm really not a finesse type of guy and the lines turned out pretty straight, just took my time masking if off. Other then that section you can just paint away Philip.
Cool thanks. personally I would paint my turn signals. I did it in my Tacoma and the still reflected the light just fine. Plus I liked the look better.
I found a pic showing how I taped off the turn signal part of the housing. Just laid the masking tape along the inner edge. Real easy, just follow the edge.
Hello 2nd Stroke
I am looking to paint out lights in my truck same as you did.
How ever after watching many videos on you tube and many threads on this article,
Is it possible you can get a good bonding over the chrome by roughing it a up and prepping by cleaning and applying "Krylon Fusion" directly? or at worst apply an auto adhesion promoter first?
I'm afraid I'll loose interest and quit halfway stripping all the chrome off the lights.
If you have some words of wisdom against this idea, Save me before i make a mistake please.
Thank you for any guidance,
Matt
Krylon is pretty good stuff, but prep is key. All I can say is my lights are holding up perfectly with the way I did, lol. I would just take the extra time to rough it up with the scotch brite pad, it really doesn't take that long
Ok,
Thank you for that , good thing I never became a paint contractor. I hate prepping and I would have short cut it, if I had not gotten your answer. I think my biggest worry is nuking my lights and resealing them. Saw an earlier tip on some hi temp "RTV" sealant ? Then back in the oven.
