Wanting input about first service. I pick up my new F350 Platinum Dually monday and want some advice about when to schedule my first service. 1000 miles?, 3000, 5000, or 7000.
Some people like to trust the trucks computer on when to change. Some do 7500. Some do 5000. I have always done the first at 1000k miles then 5k after that. Always worked for me. Congrats on the new ride.
I'd pay attention to the truck. If anything seems abnormal then bring it to the dealers attention, but a lot of that may be getting used to how the truck feels. Aside from that, oil changes every 5k and fuel filters every 15k. 60k is your trans and coolant flush I believe.
I did find that my manual and the ford owner website list two different intervals for the trans flush. The last time I took it in for my fuel filters (45k) the dealer wanted to do the trans flush thinking it was 50k. We looked it up and the website shows 60, somehow I had 115k in my head and 50k sounded like they were trying to "get some extra business".

My Ford Diesel Supplement manual says to change tranny fluid every 150k miles on page 78. Also it says to change the transfer case fluid every 60k miles. Did Ford change the mileage interval for tranny fluid replacement?

I'm another owner who changes the oil every 5k miles. I changed the oil in my truck this past Saturday and parts of my hand are still stained from the coal black oil. I guess I need to start wearing latex gloves.

In addition to the advice you already received, you should familiarize yourself with Power Stroke owners guide supplement on the maintenance intervals required for your truck.
What I find confusing is both the 6.7L and 6.2L use the 6R140 transmission.
The non-diesel owners guide reports 60,000 miles and the diesel owners guide reports 150,000 miles.
Anyone understand why this is?
As Troy said, it seems to me the smart route is to follow the diesel guide for our diesel trucks.
This is from the non-diesel owners manual, first edition.
This is from the diesel engine owners manual, fourth printing.
Just did my first service at 4818, also took a sample I'll get sent out next week. I'm sticking with 5k intervals personally. 7 and 10k intervals are just too long in my opinion.
I read all of the above posts
I live in the North East
I have all diesels in our company from 2005 and up now (just upgraded our 2006 GMC gas truck to a 2014 ford Diesel)
Oil changes done by the dealer at 5000- 6000 miles
Trans fluid changes at 50K (If the truck is worked like ours are)
Fuel filters at 15-20K
If you follow that you will be more then fine
Most of all just enjoy it these new trucks are awesome …..

Thats another thing - getting an oil test done. I send a sample out to Blackstone with every change. I think it is a good picture of what is happening. It is possible to see that excessive wear is happening by that element showing up in the oil test at elevated levels. Bushings, cylinders, etc. There is a baseline range that is considered "normal" then anything outside those ranges is cause for question. In the instances that I have had abnormal readings they go back to normal the next round, so nothing is really out of whack. It is good to see, none-the-less, plus a record to look at if anything does happen down the road.
