ok, i jacked the truck up and i cant really move the left wheel. although when i went to spin it, it squealed like hell but only in one spot of rotation. as soon as i took the lugs off and spun it again, squeal went away. now that im spinning the hub assembly with the wheel off, i hear a taptaptaptaptap that hopefully you can hear in this video. wheel bearing?
ok, i figured out what that was from. left hub must have been locked, i took the hub out and put it back in and noise went away, so i locked it and it came back. locked the right hub, spun the driveshaft and noise gone
now i need to figure out what the deal is with everything else again. my dad didnt notice any play when i pried the tire back and forth, so ill see if it keeps squealing in the morning. and not sure what to do about the abs sensor?
well can i set my multimeter to ohms and see if the left is still lower?
also, with the squeal, when i took my caliper and rotor off at the shop, the squeal and all grinding noise completely went away. but.. if its not that, do you think its u joints maybe? i dont know what will squeal, i havent done a full checkover of the brakes yet. need to find some time to inspect it completely
yeah, either that or maybe the dust shield is bent or something. i am 99% positive it is somewhere in the brakes though. someone also suggested filing the edges of the pads. ive also heard that you have to be very precise with torquing the lugs properly to get the rotor in place? i always tighten opposite lugs and then go around in a circle for final check but who knows
Well it sounds like I'm on the right track with fixing this, so hopefully its nothing else major. If the resistance isn't in spec ( guessing it won't be because voltage was way out) then for $112 a new speed sensor will be on the way
got the motorcraft sensor from amazon for $125 shipped, finally had a chance to install it today. was a pain because the blue rubber boot from the old one got stuck in the hub, but i got it out. new sensor fixed the problem
