Hello, I'm new to this forum. I have lurked for a couple months now and have gathered a wealth of information that has saved me much time and money. Thanks to everyone for their additions to this forum.
I bought a 2002 Excursion 2wd V10 at an auction with 105,000 miles. I've been working through the little problems and I'm down to one last small item.
The cruise control will not work. I found a thread that help me diagnose the problem. My diagnosis is:
After doing the self test I received: 3 flashes - deactivator switch is open or circuit defective.
What does this represent and what shall I do to correct it?
Go up under the hood and check to see if Ford has done the recall on your truck. It's a wiring harness hanging from your brake master cylinder, it has a fuse on it. The fuse holder is probably taped, uncover it and check the fuse, it may be blown. While you're under there make sure all your connections are nice and tight.
If that's fine check your third brake lights and make sure they all light up. That should get you started. Happy hunting!
dosecobanya, You Sir NAILED IT!!! I love the internet and this forum in particular!! Thanks, Oldtrucksrule
I've been doing this car thing for years... and the advent of the Internet has been a significant benefit. Years ago ideas and information was so localized... and word of mouth. You could go literally years and not know of some idea that was figured out the next state over. Now it is all there for the asking. Incredible.
Yep, it was the recall fuse. It was completely shot, I've never seen one so disintegrated. I had to pull the metal prongs out of the socket with pliers. It seemed to have had dielectric grease that broke it down, is this possible? Thanks again!
Glad I could help. Just think...that could have been a fire my friend. Now the trick is gonna be finding another 2.5 amp fuse, well at least it was for me, and don't go putting anything higher, could be trouble.
Glad you said something, I saw on the inside of the cap 10. So, I assumed it was a 10amp fuse. I just removed it and know where I can get one in the morning! Thanks again!!
Does the fuse mean the recall was done? I'd be nervous about it if I wasn't sure it had been done. My 1/2 ton was part of that recall and mine did try to burn up. Luckily I was in the truck when it happened.
