My cruise control stopped working. It was working fine,
When I try to engage it I dont get the dash light and nothing with the cruise control works. I checked the fuse, ok. I checked the connection on the brake master cylinder, ok.
Where else should I look?
What year? Did yours have the cruise recall that has the extra fuse in a wiring harness next to the mast cylinder? Did you check this fuse or the one in the fuse box or both?
I checked the under dash fuse #5, its fine.
Its a 1998. It has the recall jumper harness installed. Im getting power at both ends of the harness. Power gets to the master cylinder switch.
Same thing here. I have a 2000 F150 4x4 w/5.4, cruise or horn neither one work. I have swapped out relays and fuses, still nothing. Hope someone has a direction to look next, with temps over 100 here I havent really looked too hard at it.
I'm pretty sure the '98s don't have a 'cruise' dash light...the owners' manual in my '98 Lariat, my uncle's XLT, and my buddy's XL (with different dash) doesn't show a light anywhere on the diagram.
Maybe a short/defect somewhere in the steering wheel?

If you've checked the relays/fuses, maybe a short/defect somewhere in the steering wheel or with the actual cruise control module.
There is a cruise light on the gauge cluster somewhere. I remember seeing it. A short in the steering wheel? Does the cover come off the air bag? How would I check for a short?
The "cruise" light in the cluster was added around the 2000 model year. I'd have to look it up as to when it was added but my server is off-line. These models have a built-in diagnostic. SEARCH or google "HEC Dealer Test Mode" for previous discussions about that one.
For the 99 and earlier, you'd have to follow the diagnostic procedure in the service manual if you want to actually troubleshoot it.
If the clock spring goes bad will the horn still work? The horn does work.
The cruise on switch on the steering wheel, is there a electrical connection?
I tried to do the test where I held the off switch down and turned the key to run. Nothing.
I am not 100% sure on this particular vehicle but is there not another switch under the dash connected to the brake pedal? Make sure the brake pedal is coming all the way out (lift with your foot). Also make sure if there is a switch under there that it is closing properly.
Otherwise, it is probably the clock spring wiring in the steering wheel. You may only have one wire gone bad in the harness that is one of the cruise wires.

That sounds right.
I'm curious what you had to do with the throttle cable to fix it? Useful information for me in the future if something happens to my cruise. Now that it works, are you sure you have a light in your dash? Just curious.
