I am planning to take the HPOP out and replace the O-rings with the basic 7 from diesel o-rings and I was wondering if I should replace the Non-Serviceable bolt too? I know for a fact the HPOP is leaking from exactly where on it I dont know I just see a drip coming from the bottom of it during idle.
I went ahead and ordered the plug with my HPOP kit just in case. Boy was glad... because it sure needed it. When the time comes for HPOP work on my other two trucks, I will definitely be doing the plug as well. I also did the IPR rebuild at the same time. Just seemed easier that way...
I dont have the parts yet I was going to order everything today to see if it was worth getting and should the basic 7 kit do the job?
I would get the extended kit so you can rebuild the IPR and replace the o-rings in the hoses that feed each bank. If your hoses are OEM, then you might consider new ones....they appear to be popping around the 11-12 year mark. (just an FYI....)
You also will NEED the HPOP gasket. Make sure the new gasket matches your old one exactly. In most cases, you can re-use your reservoir gasket but if you find that you do need a replacement, then make sure of which type you have (screen or non-screen) and get the matching part. This is super critical.
Lastly,
Go ahead and get the fuel bowl rebuild kit or the combo kit while you are at it. The fuel bowls are just as prone to leaking and are pretty easy to rebuild so it's a good thing to tackle while the HPOP is out. I am pretty sure Bob sells fuel filters also...(just an FYI...)
I don't know that you need the HPOP gasket replaced. I've removed the HPOP and reservoir from several trucks without replacing the gasket. If it's not worn, you don't necessarily have to worry.
Same goes for the non-serviceable plug. It's a crap shoot. Maybe replacing it now is a great idea. Just be sure to use some heat when removing the plug. Maybe trying to replace the o-ring when the plug is still stuck in there well means you strip some threads out and need to replace the HPOP.
How old are your HPOP hoses? Those are something else to think about replacing as a preventative maintenance item.
