custom rear shocks brackets

I ordered some new shocks for my truck. I already have three inch lift blocks on the rear, I ordered the shocks standard. Before someone blows up at me for being cheap, etc, I spent all my money on the shocks, and I want a custom look to it. I am building a bracket that holds the bottom of the shock and mounts to the original shock mount on the axle. any ideas or design flaws predictions?

just make sure the bracket you built can't pivot within the original bracket. Being a single bolt connection the bolt is typically the pivot point for the bushing of the shock. You do NOT want to have your new bracket be able to pivot on the original one.

ok, that means I got to take the stick welder to it, I tightened the bolts as tight as I felt safe to. Thanks for the info, have you made your own?

These are the shock "mounts" I made. They aren't done yet (need to add cross bar over the engine) but you get the idea..

I haven't gotten to the rear yet but they will be similar.

what kind of shock is that? If I can remember the next time I go outside, I'll snap a few pics of my brackets. mine ain't much, but they'll do their purpose.

it's called a "bypass" shock. Off road racing type parts. It's a 2.5" diameter body shock that is 100% rebuildable. I can also "tune" the shock by putting different piston stacks, etc. inside to adjust the compression & rebound rates on the shock.

if you know what size and thread pitch of bolt you used, you can look up the torque spec and tighten it properly.

Fastener Torque Table SAE Grade - Engineers Edge

I ALWAYS look it up and torque it down on something important.

if you use the torque specs listed on this page you can be assured that the bolt is properly tensioned and will not come loose.
