Question Engine will be out, coolant flush/Replace??

So the engine in my x will be out and I did not have a chance to do a flush and clean with VC-9 prior so I was wondering what the best method is to flush everything while it's apart. I am adding a coolant filter as well as a million other things in this process and want to make sure when I fire it up afterwards I've got as clean as possible fluids running through everything.
I have the ford gold coolant ready but it looks like a lot of folks recommend the Cat-EL?

Thanks for suggestions and tips!

Jake

How far apart are you taking it?.if youre stripping it to the block i'd have it hot tanked, or chemically cleaned. If not i'm really not sure what you could do to flush it out. Youve got no water flow now so it might be tough getting it flushed out real good. You could put water in at the highest point, plug all the holes, and let it drain out of the lowest point. Hot water pressure washer might work to.

The block will go in a hot tank for sure, heads are getting decked and they will have it clean enough to check valve guides etc...

Just thinking what I could do with everything else to get it flushed as good as possible. I suppose manually flush radiator with water hose and run water hose through degas bottle...anywhere else I am missing? I am doing EGR delete and replacing oil cooler in the process.

Run the hose through the heater core. Look close at the radiator when you flush it out. If you get any flakey stuff out of it replace it. Sounds like its gonna be spic and span when youre done. What happen to where youre tearing it down this far?.

Actually nothing! I have the funds to do everything now so thought I would just knock it out.
-head studs
-gaskets
-front and rear seals
-egr delete
-new oil cooler
-coolant filter
-decking heads
-fumoto valves in block
-FICM tuned by Ed +atlas tune
-gauges (fuel pres and egt)

WOW!
Poor guy that can use some $$ here.
So you are striped down to a block? Going to be new bearings too?
I have never jumped into any motor that did not have some type
of issue.
Are you doing this all your self ?
Sounds like a fun project.

When you flush out the heater core heated water would work better.
You could also use a pump with a filter on it to run the cleaner through
it for a longer time then back flush it that way also

Yeah stripped down to the block.
My buddy is a diesel mechanic and he is doing all the work for me, aside from me helping out with breaking it down etc.
If anything turns up wrong with it we will replace it, what bearings are you talking about?

Hell for $300 I could replace the radiator and heater core with new ones. May as well do that vs. flushing all this crap?

Hi
Main,Rod and Camshaft bearings

And I very much agree with Hell for $300 I could replace the radiator and heater core with new ones. May as well do that vs. flushing all this crap?

The machine shop will be checking everything to be sure its within spec tolerances.
Ive got valve guides on hand as well incase those turn up loose after the hot wash.

So if I replace heater core, radiator, oil cooler and hot wash the block I theoretically would be starting with a clean slate correct? Aside from gunk inside of existing hoses I suppose?

Am I missing anything? I could replace the hoses too.

Stripped down to the block, and hot tank mean you are rebuild the engine. It going to cost you a lot of money just for material alone. Not sure about diesel engine, but when I had to do the heads on my 350 CI chevy, I ended up rebuild the whole thing. One of those if gone that far, might as well
