Rust Treatment options

Because I spend most of my FTE time lurking around the old truck posts, I figured I'd ask you all this question first. I am closer to getting my "53 ready for paint. The time I have to work on it is sporadic, at best. I sandblated the bed last weekend. And I probably won't get back to the project until next weekend. During this intervening week, rust is going to grow on the bare sheet metal. I still have some welding to do. And I'm going to try my hand at lead body filler. What product will protect the bare metal while I wrap up body work prior to painting? I read about Piclex 20. It sounds almost too good to be true. Is it any good? Are there similar products that work better? Do I simply wipe down PickleX 20 treated surfaces with some lacquer thinner and then I'm ready to epoxy primer the thing? Should I take my newbie questions over to the Paint and Body Work section and pick their brains?

My suggestion would be to spray the bare metal with WD 40. I know it seems crazy but it works. It's made with fish oil, it's cheap, and easy to remove. I read that tip in a "how to" book on building a streetrod. If you're going to use epoxy primer, it will seal up everything very well. Good luck.

WD 40 may work short term and I don't know how long short term might be. A few years back I took over a project that had been stripped and preserved with WD 40 about ten years earlier. The results were not pretty even though the vehicle had been dry stored but not climate controlled. I use Ospho or some other phosphoric acid on bare metal to preserve 'till I am ready to finish. But, I've never been more than several months with just the Ospho on the surface.
