Hi - I know you guys have the answer to my problem. I am trying to remove the front & rear drive shafts & don't want to destroy parts doing it. I tried PB Blaster for a couple of days on the rusted studs holding the flange to the front drive shaft. I figured heat would be next but thought I would check here.
Thanks!
You could try and get a 12pt box end wrench a little bit smaller than the stud and hammer it on. It will bite into it and you should be able to turn it. i have used this method before and works as long as you have the clearance.
There is some stuff I use called Fluid Film that you can get online or from a John Deere dealer. The stuff is used on off shore oil rigs for rust prevention and lubrication. I know you are wanting to get these apart but I would try it. When you spray it on there it will foam up.
The Fluid Film is not solvent based so it doesnt dry out and will prevent further rust from forming. I thought they were a sponsor on here at one point someone was giving away free samples thats where I found out about it. Hope it helps
Use heat and cold to break the rust free. Torches work great for heat and a can of keyboard/computer duster upside down provides some decent on-point cold. Any CO2 can will do, but duster cans are large and come with a accurate nozzle.
