battery life?

I know its hard to find anything made right anymore, and batteries are no exception. Have some batteries from wallmart ( 700 cold cranking ) even when new had to plug in truck at freezing to make sure it would start. I have 12.5 volts on these 2 yr old batteries, but they appear to have no cranking power. How long can yall get batteries to last on a 7.3?

Mine last about three years but its the heat of the high desert in SOCAL that shortens the life of them. When I lived in San Diego I could get 5-7 years out of them but up here they don't last long at all.

You need a batt with at least 850 cranking for these trucks.

Yup... 850 or more. 700 might not sound like a dramatic drop, but multiply that by two and your pair is 300 amps low. A little time goes by and that subdued CCA drops more.

I have yet to see more than 3 years from a set of batteries here in suburban Philadelphia.

Ditto on the 850 CCA.

Don't know if it makes a difference but I use Interstate batteries. The set in my KW are going on 8+ years and still going strong. Just put a pair in my 06 F350, the origional ford pair went 6 years but that is unusual for stock batteries.

Get motor craft batteries at ford. $112 a piece iirc. Great warranty. I usually get mine replaced for free every three years from ford

I get about 3 yrs on average. It's hot down here in the summers and I'm off road on job sites a lot. YMMV.
