New suspension Help

Alright guys, bought my first X a month or so ago and im looking into replacing the suspension. Truck has around 250K on it and I doubt the suspension has ever been touched. I was wondering what you guys would suggest I get into. I won’t be towing often, though will be towing some and want a smooth ride. I was thinking v fronts and b backs but it’s a clean slate. Was wondering what you guys thought. I’m not looking to lift it a lot just wanting a nice smooth, comfortable ride. Thanks for the help!

Probably V's or X's (since its a heavier diesel engine) and stock B's with the F350 block. Modded B's with Ex block will be stiffer so it's your call. Don't forget shocks too. A mono-tube design stock replacement should be fine, based on what you've said you're looking for. I'll probably catch shat for the shock suggestion, since a lot of owners swear by rancho and bilstein.

I recently upgraded mine with X code up front and C code in the back, Bilsteins all around and couldn't be happier! Went with new tires BFG 285 on stock rim as well.

My 2 cents.........You will be good with the V codes up front and the modded B codes on the back. You should consider X codes up front if you want a little stiffer suspension up front or plan to go with a heavier custom bumper or winch in the future. The folks that have the V codes love them, and the folks that chose the X codes love them. Can't go wrong either way. I don't have any experience with the C codes in the back.

As for shocks - I like the bilsteins with CT Performance's (Cary or OBSWIZ) dual bilstein front shocks. Has worked very good for me the past year. Are there other options? Sure, but Cary has been through many different suspension variations and I'd rather learn from his experience than reinvent the wheel. I think the dual front shock setup ran about $400.

There are many good threads relating to Excursion suspension in this forum if you have not seen them already, here's a good place to start.

You can get your Excursion suspension and steering to handle and perform the way it should. I couldn't believe the difference after I did mine - just night and day........

I let the company i bought it from do a 3" lift and they went pro comp springs and shocks. I didnt know any better. Feels like im riding on a horse. In the future i will be replacing everything with b and v springs and bilsteins. (as soon as im done with all my engine mods and i get off the radar with my wife on spending money on the EX)

Both of us make a monotube shock. A monotube is a firmer ride that some prefer while others find it too firm.

Our RS9000XL is a nice option because of the adjustablity of it.

Thanks for all of the advice guys. Im going to be working in the mountains with it, maybe some search and rescue and definitely some harsher winters so im going to go with the x codes because a winch will not be an option. White buffalo, any idea how I can get a hold of someone from CT for that front shock setup?

Thanks a ton. Im really hoping to get this baby back into shape. The guy that had it before me loved it, but kinda made it a farm truck and besides doing routine maintenance on the engine, I really dont think he did much else to it. I'm looking to make it into a nice trip/work vehicle

You will, many folks on this and other forums have done these suspension mods and have been very pleased with the results. I know mine drives and handles so much better that before. I would do these mods again in a heartbeat, no regrets.

Yeah im looking forward to the upgrades, just not necessarily the price tag attached. Im already fighting with my better half over keeping my Subaru STI and the truck at the same time. Hoping the X project doesnt put the nail in my subi's coffin. Love them both too much.

Try and keep both! Those are the 2 I would have. So far just the EX since my wife stole my 4runner after the kids were born. Now she calls it "her" car. lol
