Today I pulled the dip stick to smell the fluid and it does not smell burnt but I was not able to get it to running temp to check the level I did not drive the truck today I will try tomorrow

If its any consolation my 97 has 334,000 on the original trans and conveter, and its behind a diesel that hasn't had a nice life. The reg cab has 145,000 on a jasper reman that was in it when I bought it.

The FIRST thing to help it out is get that factory pos tranny cooler out of there and install something big. Cooling is key to making these trannys live. With the factory cooler just sitting stop lights in town my temps would creep up to over 200. If you spend 30 minutes in stop and go traffic your really putting heat into the tranny.
