I need to drop another engine in my truck, its an 87 f150 with the 300-six and a new process 4 speed. I know i gotta take out the radiator, take the fan off, unbolt the tranny, and disconnect all the wires.
That isnt the hard part, I wanna know how much of a pain it is to pull it off the tranny shaft then putting it back on it. I changed the clutch out last year, so Im familiar with the driveline and worse come to worse ill have to take all that out, drop in the engine then put it back in. I know ill have to support the tranny once the engine is out too
Im going to be doing it in my friends garage and he has big chain hoists on rollers attached to an I beam in the ceiling. I was also going to remove the hood just to make things a little easier.
How much of a PITA is it going to be to get it out and the new one in?
My mechanic said he can put it in for 400-500 bucks, I dont have the money laying around for the mechanic bill, but my parents are willing to help me with finances to get the truck straightened out.
would it be worth it to take to him instead of me doing it? I wouldnt mind trying to do it myself but I dont wanna mess anything up in the process.
