Have an 03 f-250 5.4l and doing a gear change and a locker since the ford limited slip is a big disappointment. I'm wanting to do a selectable locker in the rear such as auburn or eaton but the company I order through doesn't offer it. Are they not available for the 10.5? While on the subject I have 35s and 3.73s and I'm going to upgrade to lower gears. Looking at 4.56s or should I move even lower to 4.88s? Anyone have experience with the 5.4 and larger tires. Truck is used as a weekend driver 70% of the time and pulling trailer 30% of the time. Thanks
I did, I wanted to go electronically if possible. Dont have much need for air compressor and didn't want to deal with extra cost. As long as this axle has been around you would think that there would be one on the market.
I understand that much. I'm not going with Detroit just because of the road manners I have read about. I guess arb is about the only way to go I guess. I'm surprised eaton and auburn haven't had any interest in the 10.5 axle besides limited slips. After the disappointment in the original LS I'm not going that route again.
What configuration is your Super Duty... regular cab, extended cab, or crew cab? What performance mods have you installed on the 5.4L 2V engine? Are you staying with 35" tires for the long-term?
As for selectable lockers, the following are available from the aftermarket:
Front Axle - Dana 50/60 - ARB and Eaton ELocker
Rear Axle - Sterling 10.25/10.50 - ARB
I have contacted Eaton on two occasions regarding an ELocker for the Sterling 10.50 axle and they say that it is in development. I believe that it has already been developed for the new 2011-present Super Duty but has not been released to the aftermarket.
Performance-CAI, exhaust and programmer. I need to get the truck geared right so I have my optimal power and not down shifting when I hit a slight incline especially when I have a trailer on the back. I don't think I will upgrade to any taller tire unless toyo comes out with a 36" tire. I guess I may have to look into the arb a bit more. Just didn't want to go that route.
Most off roaders use Detroit locker or ARB, and don't want a huge & heavy truck. That's why you're not seeing what you want.
Your statement is partially correct... Most off-roaders do select lighter vehicles, such as Jeep's, Tacoma's, and Bronco's. ARB is the leader in the selectable locker market NOT because they are the best, but because they don't have any competition. Eaton's ELocker application guide (see link below) targets very few newer vechicles with the exception of Hummers and Jeeps.

What size wheels do you have? Toyo has a 315/70/R18 (35.7") in their M/T line.
