Hey all, a couple weeks ago I blew the diff up in my truck, '65 F100, short bed 352.
I'm going to try and order a new diff for it tonight and am wondering if you have any suggestions. I'd like to reuse my 3.50 gears since they still look fine. I'd also like to get a limited slip and was looking at the track lok's. Your opinion?
Is the diff housing and gears still good? Just the spider gears and carrier grenaded? If so nows the time for a nice posi or limited slip center section. I always heard good on Detroit lockers will probably end up running one of them in my rear. Do you want a full time locker or a selectable one?
Selectable locker/ LSD I'm thinking, I want it to still be street able, since its a daily driver and I've heard stories about spools in the rain, but I'm not a fan of the peg leg starts either.
Goin fancy with a selectable locker nice I've looked into them since I'll be running one in my front axle for sure. Do you want it ran by air or electric? I haven't decided yet on what I'll be running but it's down to a ARB, Yukon zip locker or a eaton e locker (ran off 12v) instead of air. Heard good on all of them only downside to the air lockers are possible airline failure. But also gives you onboard air for any air tools or to pump up a tire if needed.
Well..decided to go with a helical LSD for now, I found one at a good price so I pulled the trigger.
In the future if I go selectable, Id be tempted to go air just for the fact of having an onboard compressor for tools and what not. I mean I already have 12 volt, might as well get some air going too.
