Tranny problem

Which auto transmission do you have (your truck came in two flavors)? Have you checked for codes? What other service has recently been done? When did these symptoms start? What have you done to resolve the issue?

Didnt know there where two trannys for my year so I dont know which one I got. Have not checked for codes. Have did no other service recently. Symptoms started about 6 monthes ago. Have done nothing to resolve issue.

Check the door jamb sticker to see what the transmission code is. An E4OD is Code E. If you have a 4R70W the code should be Code U. In either case they both are electronic controlled. Start with the basics, check for codes, check the fluid level/color/smell.

Check the door jamb I got the E40D tranny. The fluid level is right color is red and no burnt smell. I dont know anything about checking for codes. Do you think a fluid and filter change would help? Do you know if it has a vacum line on it?

The E4OD is an electronically controlled transmission. Doing a fluid and filter change is never a bad idea, and is often one that is overlooked by people. if your truck has over 100K miles and if you don't know that it has ever been done it wont hurt. As far as checking the codes goes almost any auto shop can do it for you or you can buy the tool and do it yourself. also check your motor and transmission mounts if they are worn you can get a hard shift condition. But most of the time on an E4OD it is a sensor or corrosion on the wiring connectors to the sensors. Also being electronically controlled there are no vacuum lines that run to that transmission.

A fluid and filter change is always a good idea if you do not know the age/mileage on the transmission fluid. Keep in mind a complete fluid change including the fluid in the torque converter is ~16+ quarts. A simple pan fluid change is not really recommended.
There is no vacuum line on the transmission, it is 100% electronic controlled. As previously noted.
