P1396 codes and flashing OD button

I still have the issue of flashing over drive button. I can go 100s of miles and it won't come on and other times I can go ten miles and then it starts flashing, and when it does come on it starts hard shifting, I mean really had.

So, I haven't got my OBDII reader yet, but I wanted to know so I went to auto zone and had them pull the codes for me. I got only one code (p1396), (cali truck). I did a search in the forum and the P1396 comes up GP bank 2, I have all new GP and GPR (month old), so I'm a bit confused. The Auto Zone reader mentioned a misfire.

Questions:
1. Anyone know if the the codes are different between fed trucks and cali trucks and what is the actual code problem (P1396)?

2. Will the code readers at auto zone NOT read some of the codes these truck spit out?

3. Any other insight on my tranny issue? When it's not blinking it's shifting perfect. When it's blinking it's very hard. Fluid if full too.

thanks,
/Rich

you can clear the pcm codes by unhooking batteries or pulling #9 fuse.

Ok, Tranny issue is still bugging me bad. When the OD light starts blinking it shifts hard, a lot harder then my likens can tolerate. So, I broke down and picked up a cheap OBDII reader. When I had the codes read at auto zone I got only one P1396, but the light wasn't blinking then. I thought maybe if I read the codes when the light was blinking it might tell me something different, I've been at a loss here.

So on the way home the light starting blink, very hard shifting, great, now I can read the codes. Well, nothing comes up except the old code, so I erase the code....when I did that, the light stops blinking! I then take her for a drive to see if it stopped the hard shifting, it wwas like there was never a problem.

It can't be this easy? Can it? I've only put 15 miles on her so time will be the true test. Would an old code reek havok like this?

thanks,
/Rich
