engine question

i have 2 400 engines one out of a 79 bronco the other out of a 79 f150 my question is why do they have different size balancer bolts in the crank. the bronco takes a 1 1/8 socket and the f150 is a 15/16. the reason i ask is i am planing to rebuild the f150 one but if there is a major difference i may change the way i plan to go. am i worrying about nothing or am i missing something. thanks for the help.

Someone probably messed up the threads somewhere along the way and had to go to the next size bolt. Probably forgot to put the snout bolt back in before the puller was put on and ruined the threads.

that seems like a big jump though just to fix some messed up threads. i also found an ID plate on the side of the block that says its a ford factory reman from 1984 don't know if that makes any differance

Have you pulled out the bolts and compared the threads? Could just be a bolt with a different head. And as far as I know the engines should be the same.

yea i thought of that also so i did compare them and there is a fair amount of difference. i don't know just seems strange but if nobody can think of anything i'll just stay with my original plan.
