Pulled the trigger yesterday!
I'm used to driving a 2010 Chev 1500 with the 4.8l V8, but totally hampered with 3.42 gears. Coming out of the parking lot, and again at the first two stoplights, I applied the customary amount of skinny pedal, and had the truck squirrelly and the tires spinning! Funny the info screen didn't give me a warning message about that! She was probably laughing at me.
The last good truck I had was an old body style 2000 Chev 3500, but that story's for another day. The last really good truck I had was a 2006 Ram 3500 DRW Laramie. I thought that truck was powerful, comfortable, capable and luxurious. This truck is a full paradigm shift over that one.
We also have a 2008 F350 SRW ECLB with the 5.4l V8, and I really like it as a work truck, but it rides like it's on unsprung axles with iron-clad wagon wheels. I can see and feel the gripe people have with the OEM shocks, but this truck is firm and controlled, and ultra-smooth by comparison.
It's by far the quietest truck I've driven, both in town and on the highway.
I ordered a Lariat partially for the leather interior, and further for some of the included features, but they're all purely functional for me. I work out of this truck. I only made what I consider two nods to pure luxury; the power moon roof, and AMP Powersteps (which are insanely great by the way.)
With the roof open and the rear slider open, I can carry on a normal handsfree phone call and be amazed by how quiet the cabin is, even up to around 100 Km/h. How the hell is a giant square block so quiet in the wind? LOL
Coming back from Calgary (where we bought the truck) I pulled our new cargo trailer: 8x16x7h bumper pull with 2 - 3500# axles. The trailer weighs just under 3000#, and it had about another 1200# of cargo in it. I encountered about an hour of hellacious storm on the road, with gale to storm force wind and driving rain that had milquetoast motorists pulled over on the shoulder. I must say the trailer sway control works like a charm, considering the big sail I was pulling. Other than that, it was as if the trailer wasn't even there for the full 800 Km. Obviously that weight is laughable for this truck, but I'm still still suitably impressed.
My only gripe on delivery is that I ordered her with an Adobe interior, but the carpet is still dark grey; I would have preferred tan... not so much to match the leather, but rather to better hide dirt etc. The Weathertec mats that I ordered will fix most of that, save for the margins I guess.
I also convinced myself that I've made my one and only visit to have something fixed; when I picked the truck up from the outfitter shop who installed my Powersteps, the driver's side seat controls didn't function. I reviewed the installation with the tech, and was confident that nothing he did related to those controls... off to the selling dealer (which was only a few minutes away.)
Did I mention it was Saturday? LOL
If you're ever in Calgary and need service, my sales and service experience makes me confident in saying that UNIVERSAL FORD is where you want to go. The sales process (via their fleet sales department) was so seamless and painless, it was almost like I was their only customer (I'll expound on that piece later.)
Universal has two service departments (and I mean, completely separate service departments altogether... writers, techs and bays)... one for diesel vehicles (including true medium and heavy-duty type trucks, as well as ours), and one for everybody else. WIN!
I walked in on a Saturday afternoon, and there was one service writer lady at one of three desks/terminals.
Me: "I hope you can help me out. We took delivery of this truck on Friday, had some aftermarket stuff installed this morning, and now my driver's power seat doesn't work."
Her: "I only have one electrical tech in today, but let me see what I can do."
"What I can do" turns out to be have the truck in a bay in 5 minutes, and me on the road in under an hour. Oh, and no charge.
(Interestingly, the tech said he had to hook up a scan tool or something, and reset something in the computer??? He didn't replace anything, or physically repair anything electrical. These trucks are the space shuttle, I swear.)
I'm pretty sure that the only time I'll ever see a dealership again is for regular service. Happily, the local dealer here in Fort McMurray runs three shifts in their service department, so you can drop your truck in the evening and pick it up first thing in the morning if you want. (Our local dealer is the biggest volume Ford truck dealer in the country. Nice...)
Of course, pics to follow... so DON'T YELL AT ME. LOL
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
Anybody else notice this?
On a side note, how the heck do I release the centre seatbelt in the rear? I need to in order to install a seat cover... I did RTFM but couldn't find anything.
And, yeah... I'll get some pics up this evening. LOL
Would you believe that when 2 dealers searched, they located only 3 white Lariat CCLB with the Adobe interior in the whole country? None of which had exactly what I was looking for, so... given that this truck will set me back a hair over $60K, and that I intend to keep it 8-10 years, it was important to get exactly what I wanted.
I ordered a CCLB Lariat, 4x4, White Platinum, Adobe interior, 20" wheels/3.55's, moonroof, RSCH w/ extra HD alternator, remote start, rear view camera, tailgate step, bedliner, skid plates, etc.
I'm told delivery is about 6 weeks. That should be enough time to order a canopy for her, and some new rubber, Weathertech mats, etc.
Sweet.

I am trying to see how much negotiating there can be done on a New order. I have been looking, and there is only 1 Black F350 SRW Diesel Crew with Long bed and Navigation in the North East Region. Debating my options. Thanks for the help.
The driver's side seatbelt retractor has become pathetically anemic. It won't retract the belt unless you help it manually. The passenger belt retracts smartly; of course it's used about 2% of the time...
Is that mechanism easily adjustable, or should I book it for service?
Did you ever figure out the center seat belt un clipping? I take the smallest drill bit out of my set and poke into that tiny hole to release it. Next time I'm going to drill the hole larger so I can use a nail. It's a very small hole.
