Hey guys I'm stuck on this !!!! My truck just started doing this about a week ao, when I am driving shifting trough the gears, the turbo only shift s to 15 psi. Then it's like the turbo stops working, I usually get 23 - 25 psi WOT. I have checked the IC boots and they look fine. Please help.
how about the boots under the spider.
and my truck dose not have a leak that i can find and all it will do is 19psi.
Did you pull the red line off the wastegate above the turbo and plug the red line?
LaBlacky - Starting simple...
Air filter good?
Check for black soot around exaust parts from the block to the turbo (cold). If you find a suspect item, you can start the engine and quickly put your hand near the item to confirm before things warm up. Listen for a loud exhaust "tick" while running.
Take 3" PVC pipe about 8" long with a PVC cap glued to it. Drill and tap a hole in the cap for a tire stem valve, and maybe a gauge. Unplug the hose to the air filter and insert the PVC pipe, and clamp it. Gently air up your turbo to about 15 PSI and use a spray bottle with Simple Green/water mix to find air leaks.
Thanks Guys for the tips. I have checked the IC boots and they all look good. I am still new to this so I do not know what AE means can some one explain. I have checked the air filter, evan ran it around the hood with the air filter taken off to make sure, but still the same thing. I wouldn't be so worried if I was running the programmer in stock mood, but since it is in the high performance setting I would get around 23-25 psi. You can all feel the loss of boost when you get the 15 psi, its like the turbo just shuts down. I will disconnecting the red line to the waste gate to see what does. I will let you know what happens later on this afternoon. Again thanks for all the help.
I don't have AE, do local shops have this or where can I go to get this checked?
The Ford stealership will have all the tecnology, but it's $100 a pop - and they may not find anything conclusive while the truck is in the sterile environment of the shop. Maybe you can find someone in the brotherhood with AE near you - put out the call on the forum to find out.
