well the engine clean up is starting to snow ball into a real nightmare ,had to buy new heads because the machine shop said that the valve guides had been fixed once by a moron so there shot,so to the point ,I was replacing the rear seal and found that the bearings look shot?can't seam to find much to any info on this subject, the rod bearings look better but fit loose /do not snap back in.should they?
the crank looks and feels like there are no ridges .so what do you think my next step should be ,thanks
the forth picture down is the rod bearings ,and that red rod has a different style of casting code vs the other rods so that one got replaced or the other 7 did
The bearings are worn.. all the babbitt is gone. However, it appears that the main caps are oblong since there is still babbitt at the parting line. Line boring looks to be in the offing.
I say the next step is to bring the crank, block, etc, to the machine shop and let get'em them inspected and measured. They'll let you know which way to go but I expect that you're in for a full rebuild.
While the mains are worn, there is no sign of them being worn harder on one side or the other same with the rods you show and not being worn at the parting line is normal. Crank looks good from the pics. I'm no fan of plastigage but if you don't want to tear it completely down I'd have no problem with just throwing a new set of bearings in, checking the clearance with plastigage, add a Sealed Power H.V. pump and go.
