I have a 1997 F-250 Heavy Duty 4WD Super Cab.
I have replaced the factory style exhaust manifolds twice and now I am considering tubular headers, but I can't find any that will fit my truck with all of the factory connections. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks!
Where do you live and do you have smog tests?
What smog system does your truck have(yes there are several versions). Little tubes to each exhaust port near the head or a large tube to the back of the manifold just upstream of the collector?
Does your truck have a solid front axle?
There are no longtubes for solid axle trucks so you're looking at shorties if that's what you have, there are shorty headers for each of the smog systems above but you'll have to search for them as if your truck is a '95, none of the retailers recognize the fact that the '96 and '97 HD trucks are the same as the '92-95 trucks so as a result there aren't any parts listed for the last two years.
Virginia, all original exhaust systems have to remain functional.
Front passenger side has EGR. Both sides have fittings for the smog pump near the back. No solid front axle. 351W.
I've got a pair of Flowtech shorties that are a direct fit replacement for the stock manifolds on the 5.8L. Even has the EGR connector in the right place on the front pass side. Cleaning them up today as a matter of fact for my 5.8 swap on my F-150.
I THINK these are the ones I have. Not sure as I got mine for $free.99 (& can't even confirm what they were taken off of) but I can verify the flange placement is exactly the same as the stock manifolds on the '92 5.8L I'm swapping into my F-150. Hope this helps...
Thanks to everyone for the info. Fungus, it looks like those would have worked but I couldn't wait for them. It's my work truck / daily driver and I had to get to work, so I put the factory style cast ones on again. Next time I will deffinately find these. For now I will probably just change the remainder of the exhaust system to 3". Trying to get better than the 9 mpg's I get now!
