You know it may be a hell of a lot easier to just put some screen behind the whole grill. I do, and it not only stops water in the ZooDad but also my condensor from getting all full of bugs. Remember...bug season is upon us now!

That is a good idea, Ken!
I now have a better understanding of how you got to be a moderator!
I would like to report that there are huge and noticeable gains for this mod. I would say that it's the easiest and cheapest 40 hp gain you will ever get.
But I can't.
There is a noticeable off idle response and cruising @ 70 mph seems to take less pedal with better response as well. It is a slight gain and probably hard to notice if someone did it to your truck without you knowing. You would probably think your truck was just running really good that day.
It's a quick and easy mod and I feel much better knowing that my engine has a plentiful supply of clean fresh cold air (as clean , cold and fresh as LA air can be.)
I think the hot ticket would be to build a pressurized air box like on modern sportbikes. There is plenty of room and it would be fairly straightforward to put the snorkel right into the box from a scoop right behind the grill. That way the incoming rammed air would actually work to pressurize the box. With the gap between the fiberglass wall and the factory snorkel that ain't gonna happen as configured.
I'd do an airbox if I was going to do any other performance engine mods, but I'm not. It would be fun but to me it's still a heavy duty truck and not a performance vehicle. If I wanna go fast I just ride my GSXR1000.

2 things though.
1. The air box would have to be freakin' HUGE to allow the engine to breathe pressurized air.
2. You;d have to go Waaaaaaaaaaay fast to get any effect. Even on your Gixxer (and my ZX-7R) you don;t see any pressurization until well into triple digits. (per Kawasaki...)
ZooDad is really for fun. Some PSD report lower EGTs, some don't.
Hell, it's easy, fun to do and can impress your friends who don't any better.
Well last nigh I ha my grill off to re-wire my off road lights so I thought I would drill the hole. I bought some galvy screen and screwed it down on four sides over a four inch hole. Now, I live at the top of a big hill that pulls my egt's way up and I always pay careful attention to them. I am happy to report that after doing this I went down the hill and on my way back up my egt's dropped a solid 150 degrees. No lie. I was so shocked I went down and did it again with the same results. Nice tip guys, thanks.
For haroutd, I also put a piece of shade cloth( like nylon mesh)behind the screen to keep out the moisture. It has been raining here in L.a. so I will post an update on moisture intake. Also it seems that the intake on my diesel is about twice the size as the one shown in scasey's pic.
cwb if your oiler has a larger inlet I'm wondering if it would be just the front of the airbox thats different.
If so us V10ers could just get the front of the oiler air
cleaner and have a larger intake.
Got a pic of the airbox by chance?
Anybody have a pic with the diesels airbox clearly shown?
