E40D replacement options

E40D replacement options
So I just bought a 95 F-150 Eddie Bauer. Power everything, automatic, v8. 150k miles. I've read a lot that the E40D tranny is horrible. What would be decent options to replace it with, or am I stuck with it? Thanks in advance for the info.

I was told that March 22 1995 and newer built trannies have a center support bearing in them. Once that was implemented they were super solid. I have 190k on mine, just change the fluid/filter and its working great. Either way, I wouldn't swap it out to anything else (quite a job to switch to manual, not as simple as you may think) unless yours is trashed.

Why would you swap out a perfectly fine working trannie?
Anyway, late-'94 and on F5 trannies are much better. The front pump and center support problems were corrected, you shouldn't have much to worry about, just keep the fluid clean
