whenever I push on the clutch for more than a second, theres this loud grinding noise. It is loudest when in second gear and does not sound when at a stand still. I am able to change from gear to gear without problem. what is making this grinding noise and what do i have to fix?
I have the same problem with my 98 ranger. Mine has 105, 000 on it, and its been doing that forever- since probably 65000 miles. Its annoying- I thought it was the clutch, but the garage says it aint. According to them my clutch is fine (i have never had it changed yet). I still cannot figure it out- it grinds, then the front passenger side vibrates real loud. I got to do more research on it then maybe i can get it figured out-
Same- I took it to the dealer and they didnt know what i was talking about- they took it for a drive, and (of course) it never happens when you have the tech sitting in the drivers seat. After that I just kept driving, figuring I would find out sooner or later. If I ever find out I will post a reply- I have to put a new timing belt in it next weekend - we'll see what happens.
after some more research it sounds that it might be a bad bearing or a bearing going bad that is causing that sound but which one i still dont know
im gonna go have them check which bearing is causing the problem tuesday
hopefully this new information helps you as well
Hey yeah that would be cool, I need to put the whole pickup in the garage but I can only do what my wallet will let me do for right now. That info would help me out though- thanks man
well i was right
it was the bearing....but it was also the slave, the clutch itself, and i had to get the flywheel resurfaced/resmoothed....
was a bit pricey but it got the job done
i guess I am going to have to fork over some money then......how many miles did the clutch have? I thought I was cool doing 105 thous without a change of clutch- --
I guess I will have to take it in this weekend. Thanks for the advice, it'll really help me out- who knows what else will be wrong with it, hopefuly not much.
