Coolant flush procedure

Ok, I don't really need to flush the coolant but I want to. I would like opinions on how you all think would be the best way to drain and flush both cooling systems.

I think we can all agree that it's not like it used to be. A split core main radiator, several auxiliary coolers, and of course dealing with the EGR and making sure there is no air lock or that anything runs dry from improper filling.

So, I am pretty much convinced that I should not do this myself even though I am a very hand on technical kind of guy that can pretty much do anything. Do any of you know exactly how it is supposed to be done, is it easier than it appears?

I'm not really sure. If so inclined, give me a step by step.

(I fully expect the standard wise **** comments too)

OK I'll bite. Why would you want to flush cooling system if coolant tests ok.

I have lots of miles on it and the degassing bottle for the main radiator has grey staining on it.

Rangeron, He has a lot of miles. I dare say he has hit the recommended milage.

The guidelines suggest 60,000 miles under severe duty and 105,000 miles under normal duty.

there is a special system for flushing the ford coolant systems. i forgot what its called. and while i do most stuff myself, (including many coolant systems on gassers), this i wouldnt mess with unless the recommended equipment is used.

I used to subscribe to the Ford shop manual but no longer. Perhaps you should go to www.motorcraftservice.com and purchase a subscription? I think it's around $80/year and would show you all TSBs, recalls, and current factory information.

Really great to see you accrue a ton of miles without any issues to speak of!

No wise comments here but this might be a project for your dealer especially if a piece of equipment is needed.
I fear it won't be cheap but if something doesn't go well, they'll fix it.
The only key point is Ford calls for distilled water and I think some simply fill a jug from the tap.
Of course, once you change this out, you're stuck to every 45,000 now (according to the book).

Every engine/cooling system combo bleeds out just a little different, and you are first in line. I have a vaccumn fill system that pulls a vaccumn in your cooling system and then uses said vaccumn to draw the coolant in, doesn't matter how many bleed scerews your cooling system has you don't have to touch them. I have fixed several hard-to-bleed overheating cars over the years by using it and have no doughts that it would refill ours just fine. Ask around and see if you can find one to borrow or rent perhaps-they do cost a few hundred bucks to buy.
