I have a 66 f100 3 on the tree with 300 six with a rod hanging out of the side of the block. I got a deal on a 78 f100 with a nice 302 and a c 4 behind it. I just want to drop in the 302 and keep the 3 speed, will this work? Was told I will need another flywheel. Also I would like to keep the electronic dist on the 302. How do I do this?
I can rob the parts truck for the motor mounts and perches right? The 78 also has new headers and flow masters on it. I was hoping this would swap over as well...............
I would like to swap out the single master cyl for the double also. besides the booster and master cyl, I need a proportioning valve in there right? do I need the i beams of the newer truck to do the disc swap? How many Beers will I need?
What is the rearend in the 78? did they make an 8.8 back then? I dont want to junk it with that rear when Iam done if it is . keepin the 9in the 66.....
Can you believe the 300 still runs with a rod flopping around and a hole in the block! I bet if I dropped the pan and pulled out the busted giblets and jb welded the hole it would be fine for another 100,000
all I know is the 78 does not have a 9 in it. It has a rear cover, I dont know what it is.
Most likely a Dana 44 then. Not a horrible rear, as they have some advantages over a 9", mainly they are slightly more efficient. However the 9 is definitely tougher.
Should be some casting marks ont he case somewhere. Just Google "dana 44 identification" and that should get ya going the right direction.
