TAILGATE TORSION SPRING - HELP

I'm new up here in modern truck land ,spend most of my time back in the prehistory of 1948-1956 . Here's my problem , the tailgate lift assist torsion spring is not assisting and makes a load bang about half way up . have any of you ever changed or repaired this problem . Maybe evan a parts breakdown and procedure . Sadly I do not have a manual for this truck since there is a lot on this new fangled truck that this old heavy equipment mechanic can't fix .

If you're still in the bumper-bumper warranty period, I'd just let the dealership deal with it personally.

I had similar problem with my 09. ended up being some stone dust packed in to the spring, and mounting post for the tailgate. it took a few rounds of compressed air to get it all out, but all is well now. good luck
