ive seen those gas charged supports for the tailgates that let you lower your tailgate without it dropping. problem is that it doesnt seem they make one for a older f150, mine is a 90 f150. im sure one can be adapted but not sure which one. has anyone here adapted one of these to work.
I only ask because I was looking at the LMC spring assist.
If I wasn't, I wouldn't have asked. And sadly, all I have to go on now is your opinion/ conjecture. Do you own one? Did you try it? Any real world experience?
I'll agree that it makes removal a major chore, but the only time I am even considering taking mine off is to restore it. I've had the spring for over 3 years with no problems, and I really like it. If I am traveling with the gate open, I generally have something sitting on it..
well i cant ever remember removing my tailgate but it looks like youd have to be pretty strong to do it yourself, or use some good leverage. but it looks like it does the job and no gas charge to blow out.
an agree, if you traveling with the gate down you usually have a reason for it. i dont think ive ever drove with my tailgate down, and ive used it for construction work ever sense i bought it. i just wonder how it affects the center of the tailgate and left bed post corner for tweaking with the stress on them. any flexing of the metal in either of these areas.

It's actually not difficult at all to take the tailgate off of these trucks. Pull it down about halfway, pull out on the right side and it will come right off.
And I would guess mine weighs about 80lbs.

Which is why I apply the 90 cent theft deterrent. Thanks for telling the rest of the world how to steal my tailgate. Please delete your entire post. I will edit mine as soon as you do. Thanks!
